Am I the only one who has a hard time deciding between loan officers? I've decided that trust is the single most important factor. Only choose a loan officer who you feel as your best interest in mind. Pay attention to how you feel when you are meeting. If you feel comfortable and well taken care of, you probably will be fine. If you feel uneasy, set up a meeting with a different person. This uneasiness is a red flag for future problems.

look for a good direct lender not a L/O that is a third party you want to get as close to the money as you can get offers form several lenders and choose the best.

If you're using a real estate agent, you could ask your agent for referrals. Reputable mortgage loan officers most often collaborate with top agents. There are also many mortgage forums and message boards online that you can seek advice from. Friends and family can be great resources as well.
